Following retirement in the late 1960's, John L. Grove started out on a cross country RV trip. After spending numerous years establishing his family built crane business with his brother, John had no idea that this trip would bring forth the rise of JLG Industries, Inc. The world leader of mobile aerial work platforms and precision material handling technologies was the end result of a road trip.
All through their trip, John reacquainted himself with past business connections along the way. In combination with these conversations and a significant event; two workers were tragically electrocuted on scaffolding when the Groves were passing through the Hoover Dam. John uncovered an infinite market for a product that could swiftly and safely lift people in the air to accomplish maintenance and other construction functions.
After returning from their vacation, John set up a business with two of his friends and purchased a metal fabrication business in McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania. Opening with a small crew of twenty workers, they produced and sold their first JLG aerial work platform in 1970. The business incorporates many of the simple design essentials of that original lift into existing versions.
Since then, JLG Forklifts have come a great distance from when Mr. John L. Grove came back from his fatefull cross-country trip and since the first JLG aerial platform entered the market. As of today, the business has expanded itself into a number of international marketplaces and continues to cultivate modern equipment to guarantee that customers are able to become safer and more well-organized within their workplace.
